Grays Turn Attention to Doc Adams Festival

OLD BETHPAGE, N.Y. – After a successful three-and-one weekend at the Gettysburg Festival (July 20-21), the Providence Grays returned to New England and hosted their regional rival Connecticut Bulldogs for an 1864/70 doubleheader in Hull, Mass., on July 27. Both contests found the respective squads battling for victory, splitting the day as the visitors won game one 21-9 and the Grays came out on top in a high-scoring game two, 35-29.

This weekend (August 3-4), Providence returns to the heart of 19th century historic base ball as the players converge at the Old Bethpage Village Restoration on Long Island (Bethpage, N.Y.) for the 27th Annual Doc Adams Festival.

On Saturday (August 3), the Grays face the Hoboken Nine in their 1864 weekend opener and are excited to take the field for an 1886 (overhand) game with the gents from the Rising Sun BBC of Maryland in game two. On Sunday (August 4), the Rhode Islanders play their friends and festival organizers, the New York Mutuals, while the Eckford BBC of Brooklyn will offer a final hurdle to the Providence nine with both matches following the rules of 1864.
